Therapy for BIPOC
Black, indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) are impacted both in terms of increased risk for mental health problems and in their access to care. Unfortunately, systemic barriers and social inequities often interfere with receiving adequate treatment. More often, people of color experience unresolved intergenerational trauma, systemic racism, class disparities, colorism, immigration issues, and increased police violence. Additionally, research has shown challenges in diagnostic uniformity rooted in identifying pathology as opposed to affirming one’s racial and cultural experience. At CPS, our culturally competent therapists are part of the community or allies, who understand oppressive systems and work outside the traditional models of psychotherapy rooted in pathology. We work from a relational and humanistic perspective to create a safe container in which you are affirmed and validated.
LGBTQIA+ Affirmative Therapy
CPS is committed to providing affirmative therapy to all clients, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Our approach to therapy is one that embraces a positive view of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and/or Questioning, Intersex, and Asexual (LGBTQIA+) identities and relationships. In doing so, we aim to address the negative impact of homophobia, transphobia, and heterosexism on LGBTQIA+ lives.
