Our Commitment

California Psychological Services Inc. is committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to the widest possible audience, including individuals with visual, auditory, physical, cognitive, and neurological disabilities. We believe that mental health services must be accessible to all members of our community, and that our digital presence should reflect that value.

Accessibility Standards

Target Standard: WCAG 2.1 Level AA

Our goal is to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). WCAG 2.1 AA is the internationally recognized benchmark for web accessibility and covers a wide range of recommendations organized under four principles:

Perceivable: Information and user interface components must be presentable to users in ways they can perceive (e.g., text alternatives for non-text content, captions for video).
Operable: User interface components and navigation must be operable (e.g., keyboard navigation, sufficient time to read content).
Understandable: Information and operation of the user interface must be understandable (e.g., readable text, predictable navigation).
Robust: Content must be robust enough to be interpreted reliably by a wide variety of user agents, including assistive technologies.

We are also working toward compatibility with WCAG 2.2 Level AA, the most current version of the guidelines, which includes additional success criteria relevant to cognitive and mobile accessibility.

Section 3

Legal Framework

Our accessibility efforts are guided by the following legal requirements:

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Title III: Prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in places of public accommodation, which courts and the Department of Justice have interpreted to include websites open to the public.
California Unruh Civil Rights Act (Civil Code § 51): Prohibits discrimination by all business establishments in California based on disability, and courts have extended this protection to cover websites. Individuals may seek statutory damages of up to $4,000 per violation, plus attorneys’ fees.
California Government Code § 11135: Prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in programs and activities funded by the state.
Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (29 U.S.C. § 794d): Requires federal agencies and their contractors to ensure electronic and information technology is accessible to people with disabilities. We apply these standards as a best practice.

We are committed to complying with all applicable federal and California accessibility laws and to proactively improving our website rather than waiting for legal action.

Measures We Are Taking

To support accessibility, California Psychological Services Inc. is taking the following concrete steps:

Conducting an accessibility audit of our website against WCAG 2.1 AA criteria

Current Conformance Status

Our website is currently partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. “Partially conformant” means that some parts of our website do not yet fully conform to the accessibility standard. We are actively working to remediate identified issues.

Known Accessibility Issues

Some images may lack descriptive alternative text — we are conducting a site-wide image audit.
Certain color combinations used in the design may not meet the WCAG 2.1 minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for normal text — these are being remediated.
Some interactive elements may not be fully operable by keyboard alone — we are auditing and correcting these.
Focus indicators on some interactive elements may not be sufficiently visible — we are implementing enhanced focus styles.
The contact form may not provide fully accessible error messages for all assistive technologies — this is under active remediation.
Some third-party tools integrated into our website (including analytics scripts) may not be fully accessible — we are reviewing vendor accessibility commitments.
